Transfers from Colombo Airport to Dambulla By Train
Traveling from Colombo Airport to Dambulla by train can present a bit of a challenge due to the lack of a direct line. Thus it is possible to travel this distance by train only partway.
The nearest train station to Colombo Airport is located in the city of Colombo, and to reach it you will need to use a bus.
A most convenient way to do so is by boarding a line 256 bus at the 18th Mile Post bus stop, located around 900 meters north from the arrival terminal.
Line 256 buses pass through every 10 to 15 minutes on average. Taking this bus will get you to the Colombo Central Bus Stand station, which located some 700 meters from Colombo Fort train station.
From Fort station, there are three daily departures you can use, at 0605, 1505, and 2130. These trains will take you to the town of Habarana.
Just outside the train station in Habarana is the location of the bus station where you can board a line 49 bus that passes through on average every 40 minutes, and which will take you to the city of Dambulla.

Transfer from Colombo Airport to Dambulla By Bus
Traveling from Colombo Bandaranaike International Airport to Dambulla by bus is somewhat similar to traveling by train.
Because there is no direct line, you first need to travel to the center of Colombo. And this is easiest done in the same manner as when traveling by train, by taking a line 256 from the 18th Mile Post bus stop.
Once you arrive at the Colombo Central Bus Stand you will be some 500 meters from Colombo Fort bus station, which is adjacent to the train station.
From this bus station, every 15 to 35 minutes depart buses on lines 48 and 49, which pass through the city of Dambulla.
